BRICK WALL #1:
Samuel Hitchcock - b. 28 Feb 1730/31 in New Milford, Litchfield, CT, d. 19 Feb 1801 in Sheffield, Berkshire, MA.
He leaves no will/no grave/no evidence of actual death date. I DO have documentation of his birth.
Marriage#1 - Abt. 1766 in Middletown, Middlesex, CT, to Sarah Sears - She was b. Abt. 1746 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA and d. Aft. 1771 probably in New Marlborough, Berkshire, MA. No real evidence of Sarah’s birth (although she is listed in the S.P. May book mentioned below)/marriage/death or births of children:
Ebenezer Hitchcock (b. 1767)
Reuben Hitchcock (b. 1769)
Jerusha Hitchcock (b. 1771)**
Marriage#2 – Abt. 1773 in New Marlborough, Berkshire, MA, to Elizabeth "Betsey" Sears (b. 19 Jun 1738 Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA and died abt 1809, probably NY - sister of Sarah). Child:
Silas Hitchcock (b. 1779)
The ONLY record I find for Sarah Sears is a Sarah listed as a daughter of Joshua and Rebecca (Mayo) Sears in the Sears Genealogy by Samuel P. May(1) and reads: “married to a _____ Hitchcock.” I believe this is my Sarah. Her sister, Betsey Sears, is also in this book and reads: “m. Samuel Hitchcock.”
Samuel May leaves no sources that I can find.
Samuel was a Revolutionary War Soldier from MA and his record shows Betsey as his widow.
The 1790 and 1800 Sheffield, MA Censuses show a Samuel Hitchcock and family residing there (Sheffield can
find NO grave for Samuel).
I can’t find a grave for Sarah.

1) Samuel P. May, 1890: The Descendants of Richard Sares (Sears) of Yarmouth, Mass (1638-1888).
2) Rev. Edmund H. Sears, 1857: Genealogy and Biographical Sketches of the Ancestry and Descendants of Richard Sears, the Pilgrim.
3) Mrs. Edward Hitchcock, Sr., of Amherst, Mass, 1894: The Genealogy of the Hitchcock Family (lists Samuel’s children but no wife/mother).
* Family notes only indicate that Samuel and Sarah were married in Middletown, Middlesex, CT, and there are specific dates given for the birth of their children.
** My Ancestor -- presumably Sarah, died giving birth to Jerusha, or shortly after.
